Typical main propulsion thrust block with water cooling via high efficiency heat exchangers positioned in the bearing oil sump.

Main propulsion thrust blocks

Michell supply both complete free-standing main propeller shaft thrust bearings and thrust bearing internal assemblies, featuring whitemetal or PTFE pads and with or without an integrated journal bearing.


Typical main propulsion thrust block featuring high pressure oil injection on the thrust pads.

Features and benefits

  • Specially designed for each application.
  • Can be supplied with or without journal bearing component.
  • Utilises either whitemetal (babbitt) or PTFE faced tilting thrust pad principle.
  • Pedestal, flange or wing mounting options available.
  • Special end seals can be fitted, both to prevent oil leakage and allow continued operation under flooded compartment conditions.
  • Can be designed to include provision for thrust measurement and/or resonance changing equipment.
