Tug winches

Tug winches

Towing winches and systems for harbour tugs

Towing and escort winches can be supplied with a number of different drive options including low and high pressure hydraulic and all-electric. They are compact, rugged and reliable.

Frequency-controlled winches using technology from our anchoring and mooring packages supplied for cruise ships, are a worthwhile option for some tug applications and have a number of advantages: easier installation; reduced start-up costs, space savings, greater freedom of deck layout and immediate availability for use.

Multi purpose tugs

A series of multi purpose tugs in service with Danish towing and salvage specialist Em Z Svitzer. The towing equipment outfit is based on a Rolls-Royce 30/160 winch forward and a aft towing hook of 65t SWL. A five tonne capacity capstan was also part of the supply.

Eridan - Escort tug

Azimuth thruster escort tug Eridan, owned by PKL, Estonia. The forward winch has two rope drums, two cable lifters and a warping end. Each drum is declutchable, has the capacity of 200m of 50mm Steelite rope and has a band brake that can hold 1,800kN. In escort mode the winch works in autotension and can haul in with a pull of 450kN at a line speed of 0-8m/min and render at a maximum of 770kN at 0-9 m/min. Second gear provides a lower pull but increased speeds of 0-21m/min.

Third gear is for slack rope and can haul at 0-45m/min. Other towing is carried out using the aft winch, which has a single split drum. It can spool 700m of 53mm wire with a pull of 200kN in low speed. Both winches are hydraulic and use 250bar system pressure supplied by two PTO variable displacement pumps.
