Safer deck operation

» Pennant line handling
» Catching pennant line chain
» Safe cargo handling
» Buoy pick-up
» Wire swirl

A series of solutions newly developed by Rolls-Royce are designed to make life safer for the crews of offshore service vessels who have to work on deck during anchor handling operation or when transferring cargo at rigs and platforms.

Chains and wires can be coupled using special manipulators on travelling cranes controlled by the crew from a safe location

Wires and chains under tension are handled by remote control. Containers and pipes on deck can be shifted and secured with less risk to crew using a new sea fastening system.

Features and benefits

  • Remote control of many deck activities
  • Crew can operate systems from a safe vantage point
  • Less danger from flailing wires
  • Containers secured for transit and during load/discharge
  • Less manual intervention
  • Improved control of chains and wires during anchorhandlling and mooring operations

The first vessel to go into service with a full package of equipment for safer deck operations will be a Rolls-Royce designed UT 712 L anchor handling tug supply vessel for Olympic Shipping in Norway.
