Rick Kane has been appointed as President of Rolls-Royce's new Marine Electrical Systems business, a centre of excellence for the company's marine electrical propulsion, automation and control, and motion control systems for commercial and naval markets.

Saul Lanyado, Rolls-Royce President - Marine, said: "I am delighted to welcome Rick to our team to carry out a key role in the development of our marine business. We are already known for our broad range of products, services and expertise supporting more than 20,000 commercial and naval vessels. A comprehensive electrical systems capability to link those products more effectively for our customers is now in an advanced stage of development.

"Rolls-Royce has a unique knowledge of products operating in tandem with electrical systems, such as prime movers, propellers and thrusters, which gives us great advantages in creating system solutions for customers."

Mr Kane was formerly President and Chief Executive of Raymarine Ltd, created when he led the management buy-out of Raytheon's recreational marine electronics business.

A graduate in business studies from Suffolk University, Boston, MA, Mr Kane initially spent nine years as a Supply Corp officer with the United States Navy before commencing his industrial career as a consultant with KPMG. Subsequently he has gained senior management experience in a number of companies including General Electric (aerospace), Ingersoll-Rand (construction and mining) and Raytheon (aerospace and marine).
