Rolls-Royce aims to play a pivotal role in Indian naval and coastguard new build and support programmes worth up to £2 billion over the next ten to 15 years.
The company's skills in systems integration, packaging, design and equipment supply make it a natural partner for India's extensive future new build programme. In addition it can provide tailored support packages to maximise the efficiency of the existing and future fleet.
Rolls-Royce will start a dedicated Indian naval marine support service from Mumbai on March 1. Rolls-Royce equipment in service with the Indian Navy and coastguard includes Crossley Pielstick diesel engines, waterjets, propellers, stabilisers and steering gear.
This new service supports the Rolls-Royce strategy of providing a localised service worldwide. Acquisitions in the commercial marine sector mean that it now has offices and support facilities in 33 countries with more than 1,000 support personnel.
The company's naval marine experience over the last 40 years enables it to provide support across the whole platform, for both surface ships and submarines. Rolls-Royce also has the most extensive marine product base in the world, with equipment in service with more than 50 navies, almost half the world total.
In addition, the company recognises the need to work with local partners and will make teaming arrangements where it benefits the customer.
Saul Lanyado, Rolls-Royce President - Marine, said: "India has a far reaching programme for both its navy and coastguard and Rolls-Royce sees it as a key market. Our role extends much further than equipment supply, our expertise spans the entire platform and propulsion system, which will be key skills in creating and managing a new fleet.
