Changi Syncrolift is readied for service

A Syncrolift® shiplift system is being readied for service at the Republic of Singapore Navy's (RSN) new Changi naval base.

Wednesday, 30 May 2001

The Syncrolift® with a lifting capacity of 2,955 tons, will be used to transfer Challenger class submarines and smaller patrol craft from the water to a number of shore berths, maximising land use.

The modular shiplift is designed to be easily and quickly upgraded to a larger capacity, should requirements at the base increase.

Geoff Stokoe, President of Syncrolift Inc, part of Rolls-Royce, said: "We are proud to be assisting the RSN in such a significant naval development for South East Asia. We will be drawing on experience which has installed 220 shiplifts in 66 countries.

"This is the third Syncrolift in Singapore. Two others are installed at Singapore Technologies Marine, which builds ships for the RSN and has successful commercial shipbuilding and ship repair activities. One of those lifts has been operating successfully for almost 30 years."

The Syncrolift® at Changi has a platform length of 110 metres, a platform width of 20 metres and 16 hoists.
