Syncrolift brings super yacht business to Spain's Marina Barcelona '92

Miami, FL - Syncrolift Inc., a Rolls-Royce company, has increased the capacity of Spain's Marina Barcelona '92 to handle large pleasure yachts with the installation and commissioning of a new Syncrolift® and transfer system.

Joaquim Tosas, President of the Port of Barcelona said: "The Syncrolift® not only increases the port's capacity but ensures the creation of new jobs and will capture high quality tourism, which represents high added value for the city."

The installation of 12 244-tonne refurbished hoists now provides the dock with 1600 tonne nominal lifting capacity. The selection of like-new hoists provided a 15 per cent reduction in overall costs and reduced installation time by approximately four months.

More than 20 Super Yachts have already been docked, following the shiplift and transfer system's entry into service in late September 2000.

"The addition of a Syncrolift® to the 30,000 square meters quay and 10,000 square meters of workshop space, makes this impressive shipyard unique in the Mediterranean" said Francesc Betorz, Syncrolift design engineer. "Approximately 60 recreational yachts will be docked this year. Utilizing the ATLAS (Advanced Technology Loading Articulated Shiplifts) application, the port has already docked its first largest yacht with a 1100 tonne displacement and 65m in length."

Syncrolift, Inc. is the world leader in shiplift systems with 221 installations (out of a total of 251 shiplifts worldwide) in 66 countries. The company, located in Miami, Florida, was incorporated in the State of Florida in 1959. It became part of Rolls-Royce plc in 1989.
