The Rolls-Royce marine business is a global leader
in marine propulsion, engineering and hydrodynamic expertise,
with a broad product range and full systems integration
capability.
Recent technological advances include the long-life
core, designed to last for the complete platform life.
The business is also developing non-nuclear systems
and services, such as submarine rescue systems and ZEBRA
batteries.
Aero technology transfer into propulsor design has
resulted in a new lightweight/low signature unit for
the latest Astute class submarines.
Rolls-Royce is also supplying Platform Management system
elements, LV Switchboards, thrust blocks and turbo-generators
to the programme. This experience and a reputation for
innovation enabled Rolls-Royce to secure the contract
to build the NATO submarine rescue system (NSRS), centred
around a 10m long submarine which can dive to a stricken
boat and dock with it to rescue the crew. Rolls-Royce
will support and operate the system for 10 years.
With in depth submarine experience and a wide marine
product portfolio, Rolls-Royce is ideally equipped to
provide customers worldwide with products, systems,
technologies and services which are cost effective and
ensure optimum submarine availability at minimum cost.
