| Rolls-Royce strengthens marine service presence in Singapore 19 May 2006
Rolls-Royce is taking steps to upgrade its marine workshop facilities in Tuas, Singapore. This is a response to rising demand for Rolls-Royce marine equipment in the Asia Pacific region which has in turn generated an increased requirement for after-sales support services. The office and workshop at Tuas is well-established and strategically located close to some of the region's most important shiprepair docking yards. This facility is now being extended and the range of skills of the service staff based there will be upgraded. The workshop area is shortly to be enlarged, partly to provide space for a new cylinder overhaul line, which will offer a service exchange for those main Bergen engine components that require regular overhaul. In addition Rolls-Royce will be strengthening its winch hydraulics repair and overhaul capability in Singapore through investment in the enlarged workshop complex. To enhance its competitive position, and to allow the company to undertake more, and bigger ‘turnkey’ projects in the region, Rolls-Royce is building up its pool of skilled service technicians. Training is being provided to local engineers in Singapore, while experienced Rolls-Royce staff from overseas with specialist product knowledge are being relocated to Singapore. As an example, two experienced service engineers with high level skills in servicing Rauma Brattvaag winches and Tenfjord and Frydenbo steering gear have recently been stationed in Singapore on a permanent basis. |
