In February 2005, Composite Technology Research
Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. (CTRM) announced that its subsidiary,
CTRM Aero – Composites Sdn. Bhd. had won a contract
worth over RM120 million to supply five high-tech component
parts to Goodrich Aerostructures Group for the International
Aero Engines (IAE) V2500 aero engine, which has a leading
market share for the Airbus A320 family of aircraft.
Rolls-Royce is a principal shareholder of IAE, the other
shareholders being Pratt & Whitney, Japanese Aero Engines
Corporation and MTU Aero Engines. Being the first local
Malaysian company selected to supply component parts for
the V2500, this marks an important milestone for CTRM and
is a sign of development of the aerospace industry in Malaysia.
The V2500 engine has set new standards for clean, quiet,
efficient operation and has captured an average market share
of 56 per cent of the Airbus A320 family in the past eight
years, with a 64 per cent share of the low cost carrier
market.
The worldwide fleet of more than 2,300 V2500 engines, powering
Airbus and Boeing aircraft operated by more than 100 customers,
has accumulated over 33 million flying hours.
