CTRM Aero, a subsidiary of Composite Technology Research Malaysia (CTRM), is the first Malaysian company to supply components for the International Aero Engines (IAE) V2500 aero engine, of which Rolls-Royce is a principal shareholder. CTRM supplies five components for the V2500that powers the Airbus A320 family of aircraft.
In 2007 Rolls-Royce signed an agreement with Malaysia’s national oil and gas corporation PETRONAS. The two-part agreement covers the supply of new Rolls-Royce equipment, maintenance of the current fleet of Rolls-Royce gas turbines in Malaysia, and the establishment of a repair and overhaul base in Malaysia. The agreement covers all phases of the supply and operation of Rolls-Royce turbomachinery, from initial order to the end of the product’s lifecycle.
Rolls-Royce joined with Metalysis Limited to launch Malaysia’s first tantalum processing and research and development facility. Tantalum is a high value metal mainly used to produce electronic components such as tantalum capacitors. Major end-users for tantalum capacitors include mobile phones, personal computers and automotive electronics.
AIROD SDN BHD, a Malaysia-based repair and overhaul provider, joined the Rolls-Royce global network of Authorized Maintenance Centers (AMC) in 2007 and took on the servicing of the T56-501D engine. This collaboration brings the number of T56-501D AMCs globally to seven. Apart from AIROD SDN BHD, the other AMCs are Standard Aero Ltd. (Canada), Hellenic Aerospace Industry (Greece), Samsung Techwin (Korea), STA Engines (Singapore), Sigma Aerospace (United Kingdom) and Wood Group Turbopower (USA).
