Although Rolls-Royce has a strong naval
marine business, the Korean Navy's marine
association with Rolls-Royce dates from
1999, with the acquisition of Vickers plc.
This brought waterjets from Kamewa of Sweden
and propellers from Bird-Johnson of the
US into the product line.
However, other former Vickers companies
were well established in Korea, such as
Ulstein from Norway and Aquamaster from
Finland.
They supplied marine equipment and deck
machinery to Korea's shipbuilders and for
export to Japanese shipbuilders.
Korean naval bases use Syncrolift, the world's
leading ship-lift system.
A marine equipment facility at Busan, with
more than 100 employees, supplies Korean,
Japanese and Chinese shipbuilding companies.
