Rolls-Royce and Japan share a long history
of collaborative work. Our partnerships
with Kawasaki Heavy Industries (KHI), Ishikawajima-Harima
Heavy Industries (IHI) and Mitsubishi Heavy
Industries span more than 40 years.
In the Civil Aerospace engine sector, KHI
and Marubeni Corporation are risk and revenue
sharing partners, or RRSPs, on the Trent
700, which entered service on the Airbus
A330 in 1995. Each partner also has the
same status on the Trent 800 (which entered
service on the Boeing 777 in 1996) and the
Trent 500 (which entered service on the
Airbus A340-600 in 2002), while Marubeni
is a RRSP and IHI and KHI are Programme
Associates on the Trent 900 on the Airbus
A380.
Kawasaki Heavy Industries and Mitsubishi
Heavy Industries had previously been announced
as risk and revenue sharing partners on
the same engine, which has been chosen by
Boeing 787 Dreamliner launch customer ANA
(All Nippon Airways) for its fleet of 50
aircraft.
In 2005 Rolls-Royce extended its links with
Japanese industry on the same engine, underway
for the Dreamliner, by selecting Sumitomo
Precision Products to supply the heat management
system for the engine.
