Applications

Rolls-Royce GenSets allow operation in; simple cycle, simple cycle cogeneration, combined cycle and combined cycle cogeneration.

Simple cycle
The rapid and reliable start capability of the gas generator makes it ideally suited to the highly cyclic nature of peak load electrical power generation. In simple cycle mode, the GenSet offers the customer unrivalled levels of efficiency.

Simple cycle cogeneration
Gas turbine cogeneration plants produce both electricity and heat to achieve considerable improvements in energy conservation. The thermal output recovered from the GenSet exhaust can be used for duties ranging from district heating to air conditioning.

Combined cycle
For base load applications, Rolls-Royce GenSets are used in combined cycle for maximum thermal efficiency. In recent years, combined cycle gas turbines have taken an increasing share of new power plant projects due to the greater availability of low emission natural gas.

Combined cycle cogeneration
Even after the combined cycle system has extracted all available shaft power from the GenSet exhaust, additional lower-grade heat recovery is employed to raise the overall plant efficiency to 90%. Typically, the extra thermal energy is used for process steam.
