Typical production
Oil and gas reserves are brought to the surface through
tubing hung within a steel casing that runs the depth
of the well. The casing diameter is greater than that
of the tubing creating a void or annulus between the
two.
Most oil reserves possess a certain amount of natural
gas pressure which is used to propel the oil to the
surface. This process is known as primary recovery and
generally requires no additional compression.
Gas lift and gas injection are forms of secondary recovery.
