Reactivity Meter

Instrumentation and controls

Product overview

The Reactivity Meter measures changes in neutron flux. It assists nuclear power plant operators in sub-critical approaches and discrepancies when evaluating fluctuating responses caused by temperature, moving rod assemblies and diluted boron. The Reactivity Meter is commonly used at the start-up of the nuclear reactor after refuelling or any outage.

The Rolls-Royce Reactivity Meter can be both integrated into the Neutron Instrumentation System or a stand alone system. The data processing is mainly PC-based and is compatible with SpinlineTM digital nuclear safety I&C technology to capture the neutron flux information.

Product details

Rolls-Royce Reactivity meter is entirely autonomous. It processes signals internally, polarizes the sensor and provides linear amplification of current over a wide dynamic:

  • 1 logarithm scale: -100,000 pcm/ -1 pcm
  • 10 linear scales: from ± 10 pcm to ± 20,000 pcm
  • Resolution: 0.01 pcm  Response time: 125 ms to 2 s
  • Storage period: 125 ms
  • Experiment duration: 15 min. to 8 h

Digital technology eliminates the need for routine adjustments and features new functions that significantly cut physical test time. The software uses a Windows® interface and provides the following easy-to-use features:

  • Parameter entry
  • Parameter printing
  • Password protection of parameters
  • Reactivity calculation and tracking
  • Calculation of physical coefficients
  • Rod efficiency calculation
  • Algorithm testing and simulation
  • +/- HV display  Report generation
