Continental connector

Keeping the gas flowing from continental Europe to key energy markets is essential and Rolls-Royce compressors are at the heart of a vital pipeline connection network to the UK.

The Interconnector pipeline straddles the seabed from Zeebrugge, Belgium, across the southern North Sea to reach the British coast and market near Bacton, in Norfolk.  From there the gas is moved into the UK’s gas network operated by the National Grid. 

The gas is supplied from the European gas network, which is also connected to fields in offshore Norway and from Russia.

Four Rolls-Royce compressors operate at the Belgium terminal, increasing the pressure of the gas and enabling it to be ‘pumped’ from one national gas transmission system to another.
