Border booster

Today’s natural gas pipeline operators are seeking greater efficiencies to boost the economics of operation

Recovering exhaust energy from gas turbine compressor drivers to provide low-cost power, can provide real benefits.

Northern Border Pipeline (NBPL) is one of the more important strands of a web-like natural-gas transportation system spread throughout North America. It reaches from the US state of Montana to a major hub just south of Chicago, and then on to the Indiana border. This gigantic artery, over a metre in diameter, serves a 30 million-plus population.

NBPL operate 11 Rolls-Royce RB211 DLE gas turbines and two Rolls-Royce Avon gas turbines to drive gas through the pipeline.
