Rolls-Royce is one of the world’s leading suppliers of power generation systems for oil and natural gas extraction both on land and at sea. The company is also an established player in the market for electricity generation systems. In this area the sales prospects for gas turbine systems based on engine technology originally developed for aviation are steadily increasing.

In the energy sector Rolls-Royce has delivered over 4,000 industrial gas turbines to customers in more than 80 countries.

Thus, for example, our low-emission 60 MW Trent industrial gas turbine has customers all over the world which use it to generate electricity and power for large pipelines. The system is based on the Trent 800 aero engine, with which it possesses 80 percent commonality.

Industrial gas turbines built by the company are in service in Germany in the power generation, oil and gas sectors and the latest product, the Trent 60 WLE, is in service with RWE, Germany’s largest electricity supplier. Four generating sets replaced 1970’s technology gas turbines at the Emsland combined cycle power station. The new turbines will provide a saving of around 45,000 tonnes of CO2 annually.
