Rolls-Royce is the world’s second largest defence aero-engine manufacturer, providing around 25 per cent of the world’s military engines. Our portfolio covers all major sectors, including transport, helicopters, combat, trainers and tactical aircraft – altogether about 18,000 engines in service worldwide.
We are involved in two of the world’s most important fighter aircraft programmes – the Eurofighter and the Joint Strike Fighter.
Rolls-Royce can look back on a partnership with the Bundeswehr that extends back for more than 50 years.
Some 1,400 Rolls-Royce engines or partnership products are expected to be in service with the Bundeswehr over the coming years. This means that Rolls-Royce is involved in virtually all the major airborne weapon system programmes.
Direct, wide-ranging support for the Bundeswehr’s propulsive systems features prominently in this cooperative relationship today. These systems include the Tornado Secondary Power System, consisting of the APU T312 and G119 gearbox, the T56-A-14 for the P-3C Orion, the Gnome H1400-1/-1T for the Sea King helicopter, the Gem42 Mk1017 for the Sea Lynx and the RTM322 for the NH90 helicopter. In this connection we provide all the support services such as maintenance, technical logistics support and development support at both German locations.
Rolls-Royce is also a leading partner in the following partnership programmes that are relevant to the Bundeswehr: the RB199 for the Tornado weapon system, the EJ200 for the Eurofighter weapon system and the Tyne for the C-160 Transall transport aircraft.
