Rolls-Royce is market leader in the military transport
aircraft sector with around half of this market worldwide.
This prime position results largely from the success
of the T56 and AE 2100 engines, which have powered the
four-engined Lockheed Martin C-130 family since the
programme began.
The AE 2100 also powers the smaller twin-engined C-27J
Spartan transporter, which has been developed and certificated
by LMATTS, a Lockheed Martin/Alenia joint venture.
As well as several versions of the large C-130 military
transport, the T56 engine powers the Lockheed Martin
P-3 Orion anti-submarine warfare aircraft, and the Northrop
Grumman E-2C Hawkeye airborne early warning aircraft
and its carrier-capable transport equivalent, the C-2A
Greyhound.
The latest turboprop to be developed by Rolls-Royce
is the TP400-D6 that will power the Airbus A400M military
transporter. First engine run will take place in August
2005 with the first aircraft deliveries to commence
in 2009.
