The GE Rolls-Royce Fighter Engine Team joint venture was formally created in July 2002 and is responsible for developing the F136 "interchangeable" engine for the Lockheed Martin F-35 Joint Strike Fighter. Rolls-Royce has a 40% share of the F136 programme.
