The Adour is a collaborative engine between Rolls-Royce and Turbomeca. The engine is available as a complete power unit, with and without thrust augmentation using reheat. The engine cycle was chosen to meet the dual requirements of ground attack and advanced training, for land-based or carrier operations.

The Adour’s ruggedness and maintainability have been fully demonstrated through its flight experience powering the SEPECAT Jaguar, Mitsubishi T-2 and F-1, BAE SYSTEMS Hawk and Boeing / BAE SYSTEMS Goshawk. The Adour was selected as the engine of choice for European Unmanned Combat Air Vehicle (UCAV) demonstrator programmes.

The Adour Mk951 is the latest variant of the non-reheated Adour engine family that powers BAE SYSTEMS Hawk. This engine gives operators increased thrust, increased life leading to reduced life cycle costs and greater performance through the introduction of a Full Authority Digital Engine Control (FADEC).

The development of the Adour has deliberately focused on parallel streams of reheated and non-reheated versions, which maximises the core architecture of the engine and applicability for various platforms. Progressive uprating steps can be achieved with minimal changes, making conversion of existing engines a practical possibility.

The Adour is a twin spool counter rotating turbofan engine delivering thrust in the range of 5,000 to 8,000 lb.  The Adour engine features a 2-stage Low Pressure Compressor (LPC), a 5-stage axial flow High Pressure Compressor (HPC), a highly efficient annular combustor, a single stage High Pressure Turbine (HPT) and a single stage Low Pressure Turbine (LPT). The evolution of the Adour resulted in the continuous introduction of technology in each engine variant, for example the Adour Mk 951 features a Full Authority Digital Engine Control (FADEC).
