Fact sheet

Description

The Adour is a two-shaft turbofan engine, available as a complete power unit both with and without thrust augmentation using reheat. The engine cycle was chosen to meet the dual requirements of ground attack and advanced training, for either land-based or carrier operations.

Flight experience with the Adour in both ground attack and advanced trainer aircraft, such as the SEPECAT Jaguar, Mitsubishi T-2 and F-1, BAE SYSTEMS Hawk and Boeing / BAE SYSTEMS Goshawk, is now considerable and the engine's ruggedness and maintainability have been fully demonstrated. Such experience clearly indicates that the Adour merits a place in any military inventory as a powerplant for a ground attack and advanced trainer aircraft.

The Adour Mk951 is the latest variant of the non-reheated Adour engine family that will power BAE SYSTEMS Hawk and Boeing Goshawk aircraft. This engine will give operators increased thrust, increased life leading to reduced life cycle costs and greater performance through the introduction of a FADEC. These improvements build upon the sound foundation established by the Adour in service, maintaining the excellent reliability and operability record established by its predecessors.

The Adour Mk106 is the latest variant of the reheated Adour engine family for the United Kingdom Royal Air Force (RAF) and potentially other SEPECAT Jaguar customers that gives a substantial increase in performance relative to the existing Mk104 in RAF service. The design features an Adour Mk871 engine with a Mk104 reheat system.

A deliberate policy of parallel development of reheated and non-reheated versions of the Adour is being followed, with the result that the commonality inherent in the basic versions of the engine is retained to the maximum extent. Furthermore, progressive uprating steps are achieved with minimal changes, making conversion of existing engines a practical possibility.
