Vietnam is one of the world’s fastest growing emerging economies. It is rapidly becoming a regional political and economic leader with a growing influence in South East Asia.
With the opening of a regional office in Hanoi in 2008, Rolls-Royce established a permanent presence in the country. Since then we have established ourselves as long term partners in the infrastructure growth of this vibrant economy, in the aviation, oil and gas, marine and power generation sectors. The acquisition of Odim in 2010 provided us with a marine offshore manufacturing operation in Vung Tau, South Vietnam with 100 employees, delivering seismic equipment for the global market.
Rolls-Royce established its permanent presence in Vietnam in 2008 with the opening of its international office in the capital, Hanoi.
The acquisition of Odim in 2010 additionally provided an industrial footprint in Vietnam. The new marine offshore manufacturing operation is situated in Vung Tau, South Vietnam, in the heart of the country’s oil & gas activities. Additionally, the Tognum acquisition in 2011 will provide an existing installed base of nearly 800 MTU diesel engines in both our naval and energy segments.
Our current presence stands at around 100 employees in country.
Civil Aerospace
- This is our most significant sector for growth as Vietnam Airlines develops its fleet of aircraft to become a leading regional airline by 2020. The airline is planning for a fleet expansion of 14 A350 aircraft and 19 787 aircraft all of which will be entering into service over the next four years. It has also just ordered 34 A321 for which the IAE consortium was selected.
Marine
- Vietnam has ambitious plans for shipbuilding and repair through its state–owned groups such as Vinashin (Shipbuilding), Petrovietnam (Oil & Gas) and Vinalines (Shipping).
- Our current opportunities are in the merchant and naval sectors with the provision of propulsion systems, anchor handling equipment and shiplifts. As Petrovietnam and its subsidiaries pursue deep water exploration and production activities our offshore sector will become a significant system solution provider.
Energy
- The oil & gas sector in Vietnam is in its early stages and is currently operating largely in the shallow waters of South Vietnam.
- In 2009 we delivered Avon gas compression packages to the Cuu Long JOC and are pursuing RB211 opportunities with the Chevron Gas project in South Vietnam.
- There are power generation opportunities in gas-fired power plants, industrial parks, petrochemical plants and airport projects throughout Vietnam.
