We have had a well-established presence in Malaysia for over 60 years in our Aerospace, Marine and Energy businesses. Through our partners and service teams, we provide aftermarket support at various locations throughout Malaysia.
Rolls-Royce is a strategic partner to Malaysia’s economic development, particularly in the aerospace and marine industries. Over the years we have strengthened our local footprint by entering into joint ventures and partnerships with Malaysian companies.
Rolls-Royce has four offices in Malaysia. The country head office is in Kuala Lumpur and there are field service offices providing various types of support for our customers in Kuantan, Subang and Kuala Lumpur International airport.
In addition to this we run facilities with our our joint venture partners OTEC Kemajuan and Rolls-Wood group.
Rolls-Royce supports educational initiatives by participating in the British Malaysia Institute and sponsoring both the Chevening MBA programme and the British Council’s British Overseas Industrial Placement (BOND) scheme.
Civil Aerospace
- Rolls-Royce powers Malaysian Airlines' (MAS) fleet of Boeing 777s and in 2004 the Trent 900 was selected by the airline for its fleet of Airbus A380s
- Another major customer in Malaysia is AirAsia X, a subsidiary of AirAsia which selected Rolls-Royce Trent 700 for its fleet of 25 Airbus A330s-300s and the Trent XWB for its fleet of 10 Airbus A350s. Rolls-Royce also provides the airline with a long-term service package tailored to its specific requirements.
Defence Aerospace
- Malaysia is a key Rolls-Royce customer, with over 100 Rolls-Royce military engines in service across a number of platforms
- The Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) is one of the most experienced operators of the Adour Mk871-powered Hawk trainer aircraft, with flying hours approaching 45,000. It also operates the Aermacchi MB339 trainer, powered by the Viper engine and the VVIP Global Express powered by the BR710
- Rolls-Royce powers the transport squadron of the RMAF which currently operates a fleet of 14 T56 powered C-130H aircraft, some equipped with in-flight refuelling capabilities. The company will also play a big role in the future transport capability of the RMAF which has ordered four Airbus A400M military transport aircraft, powered by the TP400-D6 engine
- The Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) was the first defence force to take delivery of the Super Lynx 300 helicopter in 2003, powered by the T800 engine from LHTEC, a joint venture between Rolls-Royce and Honeywell. The RMN now operates six of the highly sophisticated Super Lynx helicopters at sea from its two frigates, the KD Jebat and KD Lekiu.
Marine
- Rolls-Royce provides services for the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) and supports a number of customers in the offshore oil and gas industry
- Rolls-Royce supplied Kamewa controllable pitch propellers for the Meko 100 and offshore patrol vessels, waterjets for the CB90s. In 1997, it installed the world’s largest Syncrolift® ship lift system in Johor. It also supplies Kamewa waterjets to Perantas fast patrol boats for the Royal Malaysian Customs and has a significant presence in the commercial marine sector with customers such as Star Cruises – the third largest cruise ship operators in the world, and MISC – the largest owner/operator of LNG tankers in the world
- Rolls-Royce is a strong partner to Malaysia's oil and gas industry and works with a number of fleet operators and ship yards to design, equip and service highly complex vessels engaged in offshore oil and gas exploration and production. Rolls-Royce has supplied power and propulsion systems and equipment for the majority of Bumi Armada's growing fleet of PSVs, FPSOs and AHTS vessels.
Energy
- Rolls-Royce gas turbine equipment has been chosen to power many offshore oil and gas production platforms in Malaysia. This includes a large number of RB211 and Avon gas compressor systems, as well as 501 power generation sets for a variety of customers such as Petronas Carigali, ExxonMobil, Nippon Oil, Shell, CTOC and Talisman.
