Today Rolls-Royce has almost 2000 employees across Greater China, including joint ventures. China has become a key market, supply chain partner and manufacturing location for the Group.
Rolls-Royce is widely represented in China with offices, manufacturing facilities, service workshops and joint ventures located across the country.
Our regional office is in Beijing. Our Civil Aerospace field service officers are stationed in major airports throughout China, providing timely on-the-ground support to our customers.
Shanghai is the Rolls-Royce North East Asian Marine headquarters. In 2005, Rolls-Royce established its 6,000 square meter manufacturing facility in Nanhui industrial zone in Shanghai, equipped with professional technical staff. We have also set up service centres in Dalian, Shanghai and Guangzhou, providing efficient services for our customers across China.
Xi’an XR Aerocomponents (XRA) produces aero components for Rolls-Royce’s commercial and regional aircraft programmes. XRA is a joint venture between Rolls-Royce and Xi’an Aero-engine Group (XAE).
Hong Kong Aero Engine Services Limited (HAESL), of which Rolls-Royce owns 45 per cent, is one of the world’s most respected facilities in the aircraft engine repair and overhaul market.
Civil Aerospace
- Rolls-Royce engines power 370 aircraft in service in China with 166 more aircraft on order. This represents significant growth from 50 aircraft in the late 1990s.
- Every major airline in Greater China is a long-term Rolls-Royce customer and partner, including Air China, China Eastern, China Southern, HNA Group, Sichuan Airlines, Xiamen Airlines, Cathay Pacific and Dragonair.
- Growth of China’s civil aviation sector has soared since the 1990’s with increase in passenger traffic year-on-year. Rolls-Royce has leading edge technology in powering wide body aircraft, and we look forward to continuing supporting the rapid growth of China’s civil aviation development.
- For the past two decades, Rolls-Royce has collaborated with the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) and with Chinese airlines to provide training for aviation industry leaders.
Marine
- China hosts Rolls-Royce North East Asia Marine HQ and manufacturing facilities. They are equipped with the latest technology and a highly skilled workforce.
- Rolls-Royce marine service network covers the entire east coast of China, with existing facilities in Dalian, Guangzhou, and Shanghai already providing technical support and after-market care.
- Rolls-Royce’s marine business supports more than 4,000 customers globally. In Greater China our customers include CNOOC, COSCO, Swire Pacific, Yantai and dozens of major shipyards.
- We collaborate with China’s Bestway Engineering on a range of energy efficient ship designs which will meet the future environmental requirements of the global shipping industry.
Energy
- Rolls-Royce supplies gas turbines and electric motor-driven compressors to support China’s growing gas pipeline infrastructure. This includes the West to East Pipeline Project – the longest gas pipeline in the world which transports over 47 billion m³ of natural gas every year over 12,000km of pipeline.
- Our gas turbines and compressors also transport natural gas in the Central Asia Pipeline and the Shaanxi Beijing Third Pipeline.
- In the area of Civil Nuclear, Rolls-Royce has supplied Instrumentation and Control (I&C) systems and specific instrumentation since 1994 when the Qinshan and Daya Bay nuclear power plants were opened. Today we're supplying I&C systems to more than 70 per cent of nuclear reactors in operation or under construction in China.
