Rolls-Royce has a growing presence in Brazil and has strong relationships with leading companies such as Embraer, Petrobras, TAM, Avianca, and the Armed Forces. We plan to expand our operations in Brazil in the Energy and Marine sectors, as well as our procurement activity.
Our revenue in the region is expected to double by 2020. Most of this growth will result from the offshore oil and gas activities within the Energy and Marine sectors. There will also be new aircraft in the civil aerospace sector - renewing the South American airlines' fleets of wide body aircraft, including nearly 300 Trent engines for TAM, LAN and Avianca.
Rolls-Royce has expanded its presence in Brazil, employing more than 500 people. We have operations in Sao Bernardo do Campo, Niteroi and Macae, with our regional headquarters in Rio de Janeiro.
In 1959, we established the aero engine repair and overhaul facility in Sao Bernardo do Campo, Sao Paulo State. This facility offers maintenance and overhaul services, including repair of component and accessories for civil and military turbines. They maintain six different engines: AE 3007, Tay, T56, Gem, Model 250 and the Industrial Avon turbines that generate power in Petrobras platforms as well as On-Wing Care work on Trent 700 engines.
Rolls-Royce Macae Service Center located in an industrial neighborhood of Novo Cavaleiro in Macaé, provides the repair and maintenance of power generation turbines on offshore platforms and onshore plants, both in the Campos Basin and throughout South America.
Civil Aerospace
- There are over 600 Rolls-Royce aero-engines operating in Brazil, principally, on fixed wing aircraft.
- More than 2,000 engines have been delivered to Embraer for the ERJ 145 family of regional aircraft. Today, the Rolls-Royce AE 3007A powers 20 variants of the Embraer ERJ 145, ERJ 140 and ERJ 135 regional jets, the Embraer Legacy 600 and 650 corporate aircraft and ERJ-145MP/RS/AEW variants.
Defence Aerospace
- The Brazilian Air Force’s fleet includes Hercules C130s, AMX fighters, and Xavante trainer planes. All of these have Rolls-Royce equipment and technology.
- The Brazilian Navy operates a fleet of helicopters including the Gem powered Navy Lynx and Model 250 powered Bell and Eurocopter applications.
- In 2011 Embraer selected the V2500 engine to power its KC-390 medium-sized military transport aircraft.
Marine
- There are over 100 Platform Supply Vessels (PSV) and Anchor Handling Tug Supply (AHTS) vessels equipped with Rolls-Royce equipment operating in Brazil.
- In addition to Petrobras FPSOs and platforms powered by Rolls-Royce RB211 turbines, there are more than 15 rigs and drill ships and numerous FPSO and shuttle tankers equipped with other Rolls-Royce products.
- The Brazilian Navy operates 25 vessels with Rolls-Royce equipment.
- The navies of Argentina and Chile are also significant users of Rolls-Royce gas turbines.
Energy
- Advanced Rolls-Royce technology gas turbines are generating energy on offshore platforms that are responsible for nearly 40 per cent of total oil and gas offshore production in Brazil. With the latest orders placed by Petrobras at the end of 2011, this will increase to 60 per cent.
- 130 Rolls-Royce units (turbines and compressors for natural gas) have been marketed for energy applications in South America, including more than 70 RB211 and Avon turbines in Brazil, mainly for offshore. All of these modules were manufactured in Brazil.
