The Trent 700 is the first engine in the highly successful Trent family. It has established itself as the engine of choice on the A330 with over 57 per cent market share.

Since Cathay Pacific launched it in March 1995 the Trent 700 has logged over 21 million hours (over 5.3 million cycles) in service and accumulates around 250,000 service hours every month.

The Trent 700 delivers the power requirements for all weights of the A330 and in particular, for the higher weight aircraft operating in harsh environments. This has been demonstrated with over 70 per cent of A330 operations in the Middle East powered by the Trent 700. With the highest in-service thrust of 72,000 lb, the Trent 700 provides the best take-off performance and revenue-earning potential for operators of the A330. The engine was designed for growth capability of the A330 and incorporates materials capable pressures and temperatures for 75,000lb.

The unique three-shaft design of the RB211 Trent family means that it has fewer stages than competitor engines, giving lower maintenance costs, lower weight and better performance retention. The Trent 700 was the first in service engine to feature the 2nd generation wide chord fan blade. This blade is diffusion bonded and super-plastically formed, giving better protection from foreign object damage and also contributes to lower maintenance costs and lower noise. High time on-wing engine has completed 34744 hours without a shop visit.

Trent 700 fuel efficiency was improved with the introduction of the Trent 772B rating and through continuous improvement was further enhanced in 2009  by the introduction of the Trent 700EP, which includes a series of modification inspired by the later members of the Trent engine family, delivering over 1% reduced fuel burn. We plan to introduce further fuel burn improvements by 2015. Combined with superior performance retention the engine achieves the lowest life cycle fuel burn on the A330, further reducing operating costs.

With the lowest lifecycle fuel burn, the lowest cumulative emissions and the lowest noise levels the Trent 700 has the best environmental performance of any engine on the A330.

The high thrust capability, low lifetime fuel burn and excellent environmental performance has made the Trent 700 the clear engine of choice on the A330. Despite being the third engine available on the aircraft, the Trent 700 has now secured over 57 per cent of the total market, and since the introduction of the improved fuel burn Trent 700EP some three years ago, it has consistently won over 70 per cent of orders. More than 50 operators rely on over 400 Trent 700 powered A330s to provide a reliable and efficient service. These engines accumulate around 250,000 service hours per month. There is also a firm order backlog of over 200 Trent powered A330s, ensuring the engine and aircraft's future for many years to come.

Engine-level Support

  • Dedicated leasing - We will structure leasing packages specially tailored to operators’ needs. We primarily offer spare engines but will also lease high-value engine accessories to provide complete support.
  • Operating lease - Ownership of the asset remains with Rolls-Royce but the operator can enjoy the flexibility of integrating the engine into their fleet on a cost-effective basis, preserving the cash position.
  • Pooling - Engine pooling, is where spare engines are made available to operators who have similar requirements and is managed by us. This provides effective support at a low cost.

Rolls-Royce recently joined with customer Cathay Pacific, the first customer for the Trent 700 and Airbus to celebrate the delivery of the 1,000th Trent 700 engine.

Cathay Pacific first started to operate the Trent 700 in 1995. Since then, the engine, which powers the Airbus A330, has become the largest selling member of the Trent engine family, with more than 1,400 in service or on order.

Christopher Gibbs, Engineering Director, Cathay Pacific, and Christian Favre, A330 Chief Engineer, Airbus, visited Rolls-Royce in Derby, UK, to officially witness the handover of the 1,000th engine.

Christopher Gibbs said: “I’m pleased to celebrate this achievement with Rolls-Royce and Airbus. As the largest Trent 700 customer, we have worked closely with Rolls-Royce throughout the life of the engine. Trent 700 technology and Rolls-Royce support have helped us deliver our objectives and serve our customers.”
