The West-East Pipeline Project (WEPP) is one of China’s most important energy infrastructure projects. It has enabled Shanghai and the Yangtze River Delta to dramatically increase the use of clean natural gas while reducing its dependence on coal. The WEPP Line 1, which runs from Lunnan, Xinjiang, over 4,000km through nine provinces to reach Shanghai, transports gas for electricity generation and heating.
Working closely with PetroChina, Rolls-Royce provided 19 RB211 gas turbine packages and six motor driven units to the WEPP Line 1.
The industrial RB 211 is derived from the RB211 aero engine, the chosen engine for major airliners, including the Boeing 747. The industrial RB211 is the most reliable and easily maintained industrial gas turbine available today.
For WEPP Line 2, we are providing six compressor packages to increase pressure and efficiency in transporting gas in the western section. The entire Line 2 runs from Horgas, at the Kazakhstan-Xinjiang border, to Guangzhou.
