Accounting Technician (UK)
The purpose of the Accounting Technician Programme (ATP) is to recruit and develop high calibre apprentices in to a Finance role. We will aid and accelerate the development of the Accounting Technician’s career by building up a sound technical foundation within the finance function. You will initially complete the Association of Accounting Technician qualification over a period of approximately 12 months, followed by the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) qualification.
The ATP will typically last 18 months. This will consist of three 6-month roles based within the Derby area, with possible opportunities for placements elsewhere in the UK. Each role will be based in a different business sector to give a broad overview of the whole business. After completion of the three shorter roles the Accounting Technician will be appointed to a first substantive position, this being an 18 month role within the European Finance Service Centre (EFSC). A second substantive role will also be available within the EFSC to continue the individual’s development.
We provide a high quality professional development experience, supported with strong performance feedback, mentoring and coaching from fully qualified accountants along the way. The ATP has generated many qualified finance professionals that have gone on to perform senior roles within the company.

Training and development:
Studying for qualifications
Just as important as your day-to-day work will be the time you spend on day-release working towards your AAT exams. There are three stages to these exams:
- Foundation
- Intermediate
- Technician
Depending on your qualifications, you may be exempt from the foundation stage, but by the end of your programme, you will be expected to have reached technician stage. We’ll pay all your fees, and provide all the encouragement and study leave you need to get there.
Beyond that, we sponsor many of our trainees to go on to study for their CIMA (Chartered Institute of Management Accountants) qualifications, further enhancing their prospects for the future.
In addition to your AAT study, you’ll complete a range of skills courses, including basic book-keeping, presenting and time management, as well as other useful options like advanced Excel – whatever you need to do your job and broaden your abilities.
Guidance and support
Whether you’re working or studying, you’ll never be left to cope alone. Your supervisor and individual training officer will be there to make sure you get all the support you need – setting your objectives, monitoring your performance, providing feedback, and offering advice and guidance whenever you need it.
Who are we looking for and what qualifications do you need?
Candidates should have;
- A strong academic background having achieved or be expecting A-B grades at A level (including one of the following: Maths, Accounting, Finance or Economics). A strong suite of GCSE’s including Maths and English is essential.
