Leadership programme
This programme is about finding and developing people who will become the future leaders of our business. If you’re passionate about getting the best out of the teams and the resources around you, this could be the path for you.
Once you’ve chosen your discipline – Customer Management, Engineering, Finance, Human Resources, Manufacturing Engineering or Operations Management – you’ll experience a number of different parts of Rolls-Royce, challenging your ability to succeed in diverse environments. At the same time, you’ll gain a thorough understanding of our business, which will prepare you to take up a globally significant leadership role in around five years if you’re successful.
Every programme consists of two distinct parts. Part one typically lasts 18 months and is made up of a series of six-month placements, at least one of which will be overseas. Once you’ve proved yourself as a possible future leader, part two kicks
in – consisting of two 18-24 month posts, giving you the opportunity to build on what you’ve learnt by taking on more responsibility and autonomy.
Although the assignments you work on will be live, you’ll still have full support and back-up from the graduate programme to help you sharpen your strengths and progress your career.

Engineering
Overview
Our 12,000 engineers around the globe help find the answers to some of the industry’s toughest challenges. Some of them are multidisciplinary, some are specialists, and some are world experts in their field. But all of them show outstanding technical knowledge, determination and the ability to work as part of a team.
Leaders within Engineering are accountable for technical work, whether they’re managing groups of people or projects. So our Leadership graduates need to have a broad mix of technical skills and proven leadership ability.
Professional Excellence graduates initially focus on developing in-depth technical knowledge in a specific engineering discipline or a particular area of the business. From this foundation, some choose to grow into specialists, while others broaden their skill base or develop leadership experience.
Whichever programme you choose, you’ll be exposed to the entire product lifecycle, designing integrated systems for optimum cost. As you develop, the challenges will increase in complexity and responsibility, combining on-the-job learning with training modules and project work.

Engineering areas
Here are just some of the challenges you could work on.
Aerothermal/Fluid Dynamics - Our engineers use and develop the latest CFD modelling techniques to simulate engine or component performance. Experimental roles commission and support tests to get the best possible data for analysis. They are involved in all aspects of the design process – from new concepts with leading research universities to testing products.
Component and System Design - Our Design Engineers work to understand requirements and then create new solutions or modify existing ones. The process demands a complete understanding of what the customer requires and the ability to integrate knowledge, data and information from many disciplines.
Controls and instrumentation Systems - Our Controls Engineers ensure the safe and efficient operation of our customers’ products, embedding increasing levels of system complexity into software, gaining customer interface and whole-systems knowledge at the same time.
Electrical Systems - New aircraft and ship designs are using more and more electricity. Electrical Engineers design advanced electrical systems that generate power for our products, designing interfaces and machines to manage, convert, store and transfer power from source to where it’s needed
Development/Services - Development Engineers are at the centre of any new product certification or modification clearance programme, supporting in-service products or obtaining new-product-type approval and certification.
Manufacturing Engineering - Manufacturing Engineers are responsible for developing state-of-the-art processes, acquiring new capabilities, factories and machinery, and introducing new products to production. It’s thanks to them that world-leading products and services can be delivered, using manufacturing, assembly and repair capabilities.
Materials - As well as delivering new materials solutions and providing expert advice to design teams, Materials Engineers control raw materials and components manufacturing. Working with the latest technologies, they liaise closely with University Technology Centres to develop a deep understanding of new materials, learning how best to integrate them into our products.
Mechanical/Stress - Mechanical Engineers work closely with the design community, Materials Engineers and manufacturing to understand stress and vibration loads across the engine, and on specific components. The focus is on optimisation, and making sure that parts are fit for purpose, cost-effective and simple to manufacture.
Performance - Performance Engineers play a crucial part in the development of new products – making predictions on key performance criteria such as thrust, fuel burn or power output. They use theoretical models, validated using real data from tests. We also have a specialised Aircraft Performance team, who make predictions for new concept specifications to air framers.
Nuclear Engineers - Nuclear Engineers work at the forefront of civil and submarine nuclear innovation and technology. Our Radiation Physics and Shielding Engineers assess radiation hazards and design, while our Reactor Physics Engineers support the current submarine reactor fleet and design new reactor cores for the Royal Navy. Both areas offer a diverse range of technical challenges – research, reactor operations, computational modelling and more.
