Operations Management Profile
Sumit Mistry
Operations Management Graduate Programme
“My ambition to work in a leading blue chip
company led me to investigate my career options at Rolls-Royce –
a name mentioned frequently throughout my Engineering degree. It
was clear the company provided a platform from which my career goals
and aspirations could be met through a well-structured training
programme with plenty of variety and insight into different areas
of the business.
Although I was in the Operations Management programme, the flexibility
of my attachments meant I also spent time in the Purchasing and
Manufacturing Technology functions, which provided me with invaluable
experience of how different areas of the business operate.
With each attachment you are given clear goals and objectives –
each one you can make as successful as you want to make it. By far
my most exciting project was as a Capacity Owner in the Turbine
Blade Facility. This was my first real management position where
I was accountable for leading a team of people to meet cost, quality
and delivery targets.
Regardless of which site you work on in Rolls-Royce, there exists
a sense of pride in working for the company. As a graduate trainee
you are provided with numerous support mechanisms, all of which
help to keep you focused on your own goals as well as the intentions
of the company. People are always willing to help at Rolls-Royce
and the network that you develop during your time on the training
programme can be pivotal to the success of future projects.
Although the company got its name from its automotive past, I get
a sense of pride from being associated with Rolls-Royce –
one of the biggest brand names in the world.”
