Customer Management Profile
Rob Hatfield
Customer Management Programme
“What made me decide to join Rolls-Royce was
the distinctiveness of the Customer Management programme and the
positive feel of the company I experienced throughout the selection
process.
The programme develops the core skills required for a role in Customer
Management as well as those of a future business leader within Rolls-Royce.
This includes dealing with various levels of seniority within the
organisation, influencing without authority, achieving results through
others and effective communication in both formal and informal contexts.
Immediate responsibility and exposure to senior management ensure
you’re given the necessary visibility and opportunity to make
a value added contribution to the organisation.
The most enjoyable aspects are the varied challenges you experience
across different sectors of the business and the opportunity to
travel and build up a broad network of contacts and friends. In
my time in Defence Aerospace I travelled to the Middle East and
attended the annual Customer Excellence conference at the United
States Naval Academy in Annapolis, which provided an opportunity
to meet customers and senior management within Rolls-Royce.
Perhaps the biggest challenge I’ve faced so far was during
my time at Bristol in Defence Aerospace. I had to research, prioritise
and drive commitment to increase order intake and meet the forecasted
targets. This required an ability to communicate the business justification
while managing the different opinions, motivations and spheres of
influence within the organisation, in order to negotiate resource
commitment.
What’s surprised me the most is how supportive, open and
friendly the entire work force is to new starters and the immediate
responsibility given on the programme. The company has a warm, friendly
and supportive culture combined with a commitment to hard work.
There’s a large graduate community and the Apprentice Association
organises a range of social events to accommodate all interests
and stamina! I’ve enjoyed getting involved in work football,
golf tournaments, and charity fundraising walks.”
