Project Management Profile
Maria Nicolaides
Project Management Graduate Programme
“When I joined the programme I’d already
worked for Rolls-Royce as an intern for a year, so I knew it was
the ideal place to start my career. The training scheme itself was
attractive as it would give me the flexibility to get an understanding
of the company’s business and how all the elements interact
as well as focusing my attention on potential areas for first line
jobs.
Since completing training, the roles I’ve had have either
meant working with partner companies or suppliers based outside
of the UK and as a result I’ve either travelled on business
outside of the UK or hosted meetings in the UK. I’ve also
completed the International Business Awareness Course which is always
based outside of the UK.
My biggest challenge was managing a project to produce a service
solution proposal for a section of the UK MoD. The aim of the project
was to submit a proposal to the customer which provided them with
an end to end solution, as far as possible, at a value for money
price. I was the project manager and therefore had several responsibilities
including liaising with the customer and internal departments to
ensure that the appropriate solution was defined and submitted to
the customer for approval.
I’m proud of working for Rolls-Royce and knowing that we’re
providing power systems for a number of different customers, in
different countries, in different industries. During my career at
Rolls-Royce, I’ve built up a network of individuals who have
supported and advised me, whether they’ve been mentors, or
individuals I’ve worked with along the way. Rolls-Royce also
operates a development system which involves elements such as Professional
Development Reviews and Development Cells. The company’s also
paid for me to complete an MSc in Project Management.”
