SCM Profile

SCM Graduate Programme
“I was attracted to Rolls-Royce because of the
brand name, the competitive salary, the opportunity to work abroad
and the early career development structure.
So far I’ve worked on a variety of projects, each in a different
area of the business. This has enabled me to build up my skills
and gain a solid understanding of the different business models
within Rolls-Royce. The variety of attachments also enable you to
build up an excellent network of contacts which is an invaluable
asset in such a large company.
My first attachment with the company was with Aero Repair and Overhaul
in Derby. I joined the new facility team and my individual project
was to deliver a packaging service to the module strip areas. Although
dealing with packaging may not initially sound exciting, it was
a great way to learn about the different components of a gas turbine
engine. It was great working on the shop floor with the module teams
and satisfying when I delivered a solution that added real benefit.
I’ve also spent just over three months working for the Energy
business in Vermont in the US. This was a fantastic opportunity
to gain a cultural understanding of living and working in America.
The training courses that Rolls-Royce offer are excellent. I have
attended courses that range from negotiation skills to learning
manufacturing techniques.
The support you receive is brilliant too. I have a mentor who I
see regularly and I can contact at any time should I have a problem.
I also have support from my manager who plays a big part in my current
development. We have regular one-to-ones where we assess how I’m
getting on in meeting my objectives. We also look at my personal
development plan to ensure I do not lose focus on the skills I want
to develop.”
