“I was attracted to Rolls-Royce because it’s
a company where your career can be boosted in any way you want,
allowing you to grow and evaluate other possible paths: from supply
chain to engineering, from marketing to sales. It’s also a
business where individuals can interact with people from different
backgrounds and nationalities.
I enjoy the interaction that I have in my role with all levels
of the organisation. I’ve had the chance to work in different
areas, which tested my technical knowledge, as well as my managerial
skills. I also tested my skills when I was seconded for three months
in Germany. This was a fantastic experience. I learned a lot about
their culture, their way of working and the way they have fun.
I’ve been given a lot of responsibility, from very technical
projects to designing and delivering short training courses and
presentations to senior management. The most enjoyable was designing,
manufacturing and implementing an engineering design with three
other colleagues. We had to make sure the users accepted our design
for a new vacuum rig and a different layout for the area. Since
I was in charge of the mechanical design, I took the opportunity
to involve the users during the design of the rig and the layout.
At the end, we convinced them and they bought the idea completely.
There’s a diverse culture at Rolls-Royce. There are people
from many backgrounds and there’s an extremely good international
society that allows people away from their relatives, like me, to
make friends and enjoy life after work. We tend to discuss aircrafts
and engines though – but that’s good sometimes! After
all, every time an aircraft takes off I feel proud of being a small
contributor to an extraordinary piece of technology.”
