Manufacturing Engineering Awards
In our Manufacturing Engineering Awards, we offer up
to four awards of £500 each to
final year Science or Engineering Masters students with
an interest in pursuing a career in Manufacturing Engineering.

Our Manufacturing Engineers play a key role in developing
and continuously improving the world class processes
that allow us to manufacture, assemble and maintain
our products. Using a wide range of lean and process
improvement tools, they help to ensure we deliver our
customers’ requirements.
As well as £400 million of investment in new
manufacturing and assembly facilities in the UK, we’re
working with partners and joint venture companies around
the world to develop our manufacturing capabilities
further. From the initial factory design to the realisation
of production flow, our Manufacturing Engineers are
closely involved in these developments to ensure our
products remain competitive. And by working with universities,
research centres, suppliers and partners, they ensure
we develop cost-effective solutions to meet ever increasing
technical and environmental challenges.
To enter the Manufacturing Engineering Awards, you’ll
need to be a final year science or engineering masters
student, and give us your answer to this question about
our manufacturing engineering strategy:
Rolls-Royce is currently investing more than
£400 million in manufacturing facilities in the
UK, with further investment in the US and Germany. We
are also continuously developing our in-house manufacturing
capabilities.
In no more than 500 words, discuss why the
company might choose to adopt this strategy, and the
challenges a UK based power solutions manufacturer could
face.
You’ll also need to give us a Short paragraph
on your career ambitions in this area. If your entry’s
shortlisted, you’ll be invited to visit our Derby
headquarters for the Awards ceremony.
The closing date for entries is the 27 October 2008
