This is a challenging and key area of the process where Mechanical Engineers are responsible for assessing the loading environment across the engine, as well as on specific components. They're ultimately responsible for determining the resulting deflection, stress and vibration behaviour, and for confirming it meets the design intent, including integrity and component life.
They work closely with Design Engineers, Materials Engineers and Manufacturing Engineers to optimise components to ensure they're fit for purpose, cost-effective and simple to manufacture. These astute assessments are made using a range of methods, including hand-calculation, finite element analysis, component rig testing and engine testing.
Imagine being at the very heart of any new product certification or modification clearance programme, supporting in-service products or obtaining new-product-type approval and certification.
Control Systems and Data Services
Our products are becoming more digital with embedded control and monitoring systems performing a greater role than ever before. Our engineers design, develop and verify high integrity electronics, software, and mechanical systems to manage and monitor all aspects of engine performance. Data is becoming an increasingly important commodity, allowing deep insight into how our products perform through life. Our engineers develop state-of-the-art analytics and service offerings to ensure we deliver the best aftermarket services to our customers.
One of the key ingredients to our success is the materials we use in our products. Another of those key ingredients is the people who help to secure and create them. Our Materials Team provides new material solutions and expert advice to design teams.
Working with the latest technologies, they closely liaise with University Technology Centres to develop a deep understanding of new materials, learning how best to integrate them into our products. Materials Engineers also control raw materials and support component manufacturing. In addition, they get heavily involved in evaluating service run parts, and support fleets around the world.
Component and System Design
Never has a role required such an intimate knowledge of its customers. Our Design Engineers work to understand requirements, and then create new solutions or modify existing ones. But the process demands a complete understanding of what the customer requires, plus the ability to integrate knowledge, data and information, principally for performance, structural integrity, manufacturing, and in-service aspects.
World-leading products and services can only happen when world-leading professionals create them. Our Manufacturing Engineers are responsible for developing state-of-the-art processes, acquiring new capabilities, factories and machinery, and introducing new products to production. It's thanks to them that our incredible range of services can be delivered, using manufacturing assembly and repair capabilities.
Performance Engineers play a crucial part in the design, development, and support of Rolls-Royce products – making design recommendations and decisions based on an in-depth aero/thermodynamic understanding of integrated propulsion and power systems.
They use physics-based simulations, validated using real data from tests, for the analysis of key performance criteria such as thrust, fuel burn or power output. We also have a specialised Aircraft Performance Team, who make predictions for new aircraft concepts and associated missions to guide development of more optimised products for our customers.
Our engineers use and develop the latest CFD modelling techniques to stimulate engine or component performance. Experimental roles commission and support tests to get the best possible data for analysis. They are involved in all aspects of the design process – from new concepts with leading research universities to testing products.
It's a fascinating and exciting time to be involved in Electrical Systems. Our propulsion systems for ships are moving towards full electric or hybrid architectures, and we're investing in electrical technologies for our aircraft engines of the future. Our products and systems are increasingly using electrical components to realise customer benefits.
Our Electrical Engineers research, develop, design, test and manufacture advanced electrical systems and components, including rotating machines, power electronics and energy storage systems.

Step 2: Come to our Assessment Centre
If you application is successful, we will invite you to an assessment centre. This final stage of our recruitment process rigorously tests your suitability's and usually includes a behavioural interview, a technical interview, ability testing and group exercises. Research and preparation is the key to your success.
Step 3: Success – you've got the job!
We'll let you know if you've been successful within 48 hours of your assessment centre visit. If you have, then you'll receive a formal offer via email along with all the other relevant information you need.
Step 4: Starting at Rolls-Royce
Once you accept, we do all we can to make joining us as straight forward as possible. You'll be put in touch with the right people immediately to make sure that you have access to a network of support right from the beginning.
