Brownie Science Investigator
Rolls-Royce is working with Girlguiding to support the Brownie Science Investigator Badge in the UK. Currently, only six percent of engineering jobs in the UK are filled by women. By encouraging girls to explore the STEM subjects - science, technology, engineering and maths - Rolls-Royce and Girlguiding are keen to help girls challenge gender stereotypes in their career choices.
The aim of this partnership is to encourage Brownies (7 to 10 year old girls) to take part in some fun - and educational - science activities, in order to achieve the Science Investigator Badge. To help, we have developed a set of resources to help make the Science Investigator Badge activities interesting to Brownies and easy for their adult Leaders to set up and run.
To gain the Science Investigator Badge, Brownies must complete one activity from four different sections which are all designed to encourage them to investigate and explore basic scientific principles. There are lots of activities to choose from and the complete list can be found on the Brownies youth website.
We are also working to develop a series of resources that include worksheets for Brownies to complete for each activity along with some guidance for Leaders. These will be available to download here as soon as they are ready.
For more information about Brownies and how to get involved please see the Girlguiding website.
