Practical Apprenticeship

Join us as a Practical Apprentice and you'll quickly become integral to our skills base. We'll help you develop your experience and grow your talent – equipping you with the knowledge and opportunities to take your career higher and further.

Make no mistake – this is hands-on work with real responsibility. Your training will cover everything from manufacturing, building and testing to fixing and operating products and equipment. From day one, you'll work on state-of-the-art components, machinery and technologies – guided and supported by some of the most advanced engineers in the world.

This genuine alternative to university will take you on an incredible three-and-a-half-year journey. Where you go after that depends entirely on the scale of your ambition.

You will gain generic practical skills in the first year before undertaking mentored placements to help us determine the most suitable skill for you and to meet the business needs. Year 2 will see you gaining breadth and depth of knowledge before year 3 where you will be aligned to a specific Rolls-Royce business. During your 3 year Apprenticeship you will receive on and off the job training and attain a number of qualifications (including BTEC or VRQ in an engineering discipline, Employee Rights and Responsibility, Core / Function Skills e.g. Personal Learning and Thinking Skills, and an NVQ Level 3 in the aligned skill). On completion apprentices will be able to enter the engineering workforce where the practical route will equate to 'skilled status'.
