Practical Apprenticeship

Join us as a Practical Apprentice and you'll quickly become an important part of our team. We'll help you develop your experience and grow your talent – equipping you with the knowledge and opportunities to take your career higher and further. We’ll also give you every opportunity to make an impact.

Make no mistake – this is hands-on work with real responsibility. Your training will cover manufacturing, building, assembling and testing components right through to fixing and operating products and equipment. During your apprenticeship, you'll work on state-of-the-art components, machinery and technologies. And you’ll be guided and supported by some of the most brilliant engineers in the world as you do it.

This genuine alternative to university will take you on an incredible journey, where you’ll gain qualifications and benefit from both on- and off-the-job training. The programme typically lasts three years; where you go after that depends entirely on the scale of your ambition.

You’ll gain basic practical skills in your first year of off-the-job training as you complete a NVQ or SVQ Level 2 in Performing Engineering Operations. This first year will give you a broad based understanding of the engineering technologies that are used within our business. In your second year, you will gain a real depth of knowledge, building on the skills you learned in year one as you carry out numerous work placements within the Rolls-Royce business you have joined. Finally, in your third year, you will be assigned to a specific role in that same business. Throughout the second and third year of the apprenticeship, you’ll complete a NVQ Level 3 in the discipline aligned to your new position.

In our Practical Apprenticeships, you will also work towards a technical certificate, such as a Level 3 BTEC Diploma in Engineering or VRQ. You will also gain Key/Function skills.
