An opportunity has arisen for a talented Safety Engineer to join the Electrical Controls & Instrumentation (EC&I) Operating Business Unit (OBU) of our Submarines group. The person will be reporting to the Safety Team Leader.
EC&I OBU is responsible for the design, safety justification and support of EC&I systems for both in-service and future submarine platforms and the effective through-life management of the systems, underpinned by robust strategies for managing critical issues, such as obsolescence and materials, and the provision of a range of EC&I support services to the wider submarine programme.
The role presents an interesting, challenging and, potentially, highly satisfying opportunity. You will be asked on a regular basis to find and present innovative solutions to complex situations arising from operations. You will need to apply experience and judgment using modern methods of numerical and qualitative analysis.

The successful applicant will be given excellent opportunity to become involved with the following activities:
  • Propulsion system safety and reliability assessments, principally Failure Mode Effect Analysis (FMEA)
  • Numerical risk assessments and risk modelling using a variety of methods and tools
  • Fault Tree Analysis
  • Support of product safety and reliability review boards
  • Continuous improvements

You will complement our strong technical teams through a challenging and interesting period in the nuclear industry with the development of safety cases in support of new build, new design and new areas of Reactor Plant development, together with continued safety support to the current Flotilla.
