Rolls-Royce wish to recruit a Manager - Electrical Systems and Measurement Strategic Research.


As a Manager - Electrical Systems and Measurement Strategic Research, you will be directly reporting into the Head of Strategic Research Centre and will be responsible for the management of people and work in line with Rolls-Royce quality processes and best-practices. The Strategic Research Centre (SRC) is responsible for leading the development of technologies outside the capabilities or time frames of Rolls-Royce's existing customer-facing and operations business units. This is achieved through the deep understanding of potential technologies which could impact the business, by managing and executing a number of these key technologies and by closely understanding and supporting the needs of business units.


The Centre aims to manage and deliver a wide span of technologies including materials science, turbo-machinery systems and subsystems, marine technologies, low carbon technologies such as energy storage, nuclear science, electrical systems and specialist electronics and sensors. It currently numbers around 40 staff.

As a Manager - Electrical Systems and Measurement Strategic Research, your main responsibilities will be to:

  • Lead a team of 10 specialists to deliver cross-sector electrical system and measurement technologies strategic research programmes to time, to cost and to specification. This covers a wide breadth from identifying and assessing emerging technologies through to programmes delivering Technology to readiness level 4 for our customers.

  • Coordinate delivery of in-house and collaborative technology programs, including activity conducted within our University Technology Centres.  These may include a degree of travel due to the global nature of our activities.

  • Conduct Technical Governance, Resource management, People development and Project delivery activities.

  • Ensure appropriate engagement with our global internal electrical systems and measurement customers.

  • Strategically influence our Customers Vision 20 road maps in the Electrical and Measurement domains, supporting capability development, engaging in company-wide innovation and working with the wider research and University Technology Centre community.
