We don't make cars (it's a long story,
but we don't – the motor car business is
no longer part of our group) but our products bring
positive benefits to many millions of people. We provide
power for civil aerospace, defence aerospace, marine
and energy applications, and we're in leading
positions in all these markets.
Our Trent 900 engine powers the Airbus A380, which
will soon be flying more than 500 passengers over great
distances in comfort and safety.
The Trent 1000 engine for the Boeing 787 Dreamliner
promises a breakthrough in efficiency and environmental
friendliness.
The MT30 is a new marine version
of the highly successful Trent family, this time providing
reliable power for a wide range of ships whilst minimising
environmental impact.
The Industrial Trent is the most
advanced gas turbine available for energy applications,
and sets a new standard in fuel efficiency and environmental
performance. It is used for electrical power generation.
The Rolls-Royce LiftSystem® builds
on our unique experience with short take-off and vertical
landing (STOVL) technology and makes us a key player
in the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter programme, the biggest
combat aircraft programme for the next 20 years.
You may have noticed some common
themes:
- We develop technology once and use it many times.
The Trent family is the descendant of the RB211 engine,
which powers hundred of modern airliners throughout
the world. Trent technology now has applications in
large civil aircraft, ships, oil and gas pumping and
electricity generation. Equally, our tradition of
success with the Pegasus engine for the Harrier 'jump-jet'
has earned us our position on the Joint Strike Fighter
programme.
- We constantly seek to improve the environmental
performance of our products, meeting ever-growing
demands for power for land, sea and air whilst making
sure that the world has a sustainable future.
- We've developed a broad portfolio of products
to meet the needs of a wide range of customers and
ensure we remain leaders in our chosen markets (and
we haven't mentioned diesel ship engines, fuel
cells, military transport aircraft or several other
sectors in which we are a major player).
