US Graduates

What do we mean when we say ‘graduate’?

If you’re studying for a bachelor’s, master’s or doctorate, or you hold one or more of these qualifications, you are – to us – a graduate.

What is the difference between the Leadership Development and Professional Excellence programme?

The Leadership Development Programme is all about finding and developing our future leaders.  Lasting 18-24 months, with planned development for a further two years, the programme focuses on developing your leadership ability and professional competence. You could follow the programme in human resources, finance, customer management or supply chain planning and control.

The Professional Excellence Programme is all about developing your professional expertise.  The programme lasts between 12-18 months and focuses on developing your knowledge and skills in a variety of hands-on roles, across at least four rotations, each lasting three months. You could join the programme in engineering or operations.

How can I join Rolls-Royce if neither of these programmes is for me?

We have direct hire openings in a variety of departments.  Please go to the Search and apply section for more information.

What is the closing date for applications?

We usually select graduates, direct hires and co-ops in the fall semester and interns in the spring.

Will you be visiting my university in the near future?

Please check our Events section to find out.

Will you help me gain further qualifications?

Rolls-Royce is very keen on professional development and many of our employees are supported through higher education. This means we may give you financial help, but it will depend on how your studies will benefit you and us.

What are the benefits of your programme?

The high value we place on our graduates is reflected in the rewards we offer. In addition to competitive salaries, you can look forward to performance related bonuses, a generous relocation package (initially and while on the programme), top-notch healthcare (covering your medical, dental and visual needs), tuition assistance and a 401k retirement plan.  As for your holiday entitlement, you can look forward to 10 days in the first (partial) year that you join us,15 days per year in the next 4 years and 20 days per year after that.  Any further holiday entitlement will depend on where you are based.

What is the dress code?

This depends on where you work. It varies from our Rolls-Royce polo shirt to standard business wear.

US Interns

How long is a summer internship?

Generally, at least 12 weeks during the university summer break.

Will you help me relocate?

We offer information and guidance on local accommodation at most of our main sites.  If you live over 50 miles from the site you’re assigned to, we’ll usually help with your rent.

Can you help me find somewhere to live?

We can usually offer you reasonably priced short-term accommodation in local apartments or at a university.

I applied last year. Can I apply again?

If your resume has improved, please do.

At what stage of my degree should I apply for a summer internship?

We hire students who are rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors.

US Co-ops

Is the co-op programme better than an internship?

Both programmes are excellent, but the co-op programme offers more benefits, including:

  • Higher pay
  • Free rental – if you live in accommodation provided by our preferred housing supplier (currently Keeneland Crest in southern Indianapolis)
  • Travel expenses to and from our site, and your school and home
  • A more likely offer of regular employment with us
  • A hand-picked mentor
  • Greater professional development, as you’ll work in a number of engineering areas
  • Paid holidays
  • Paid time off: 1 day for every 20 worked
  • The opportunity to join our retirement plan
  • If you go on to join us permanently, your starting date with us will be the date you joined us as a co-op

How many sessions will I have to commit to?

At least three, generally rotated between school and work.

What majors do you accept?

Mechanical and electrical engineers

Can I co-op on an international assignment?

Yes, international assignments are available, providing you have a GPA of 3.0 or higher and have successfully completed two full sessions.

If my school doesn’t allow me to alternate sessions can I still co-op with Rolls-Royce?

It’s sometimes possible to co-op outside the spring or fall sessions, but only in special circumstances.

Are the co-op positions only in Indianapolis?

Rolls-Royce North America has two co-op programmes: one at our Mount Vernon, Ohio (energy) site; the other in Indianapolis, but most co-ops are based in Indianapolis.

If I co-op in Indianapolis and go on to work for you permanently, can I then move to another location?

Yes.  If that’s what you’d like to do, we will encourage you to apply for work elsewhere in Rolls-Royce.

Can I take classes while co-oping?

Yes, and we will pay up to $500 per full-time session for classes taken at IUPUI.
