Throughout 2008 Kawasaki Heavy Industries has demonstrated an exceptional contribution to the Rolls-Royce supply chain. The company is committed to continuous improvement and has worked to optimise the implementation of world class manufacturing technologies. Through one project they are forecast to deliver a 40% reduction in manufacturing hours.
Kawasaki has 30,000 employees working in diverse businesses, such as well-known motorcycle, rolling stocks, airframes, ships, infrastructure as well as gas turbines for aero and industrial usages.
The relationship between Rolls-Royce and Kawasaki started nearly 50 years ago with the Risk and Revenue Sharing Partnership beginning in 1988 with the RB211. The company has strong ties with Rolls-Royce in not only civil aerospace but also in defence aerospace and marine engines for the Japanese Ministry of Defence.
Kawasaki Heavy Industries has invested many millions of dollars in new Rolls-Royce programmes and over the last four years has invested more than $100m in two new facilities. KHI has developed from manufacturing single components to supplying a fully manufactured and assembled module.
KHI perform at a very high standard despite the ongoing demands of two new major development programmes and the complexity and breadth of their Rolls-Royce portfolio. On the Trent 1000, KHI delivered the first fully assembled IPC drum on time and concession free and continue to deliver modules on time to an extremely high standard.
