We have work experience opportunities in the following areas (subject to site availability):
Rolls-Royce employs a wide variety of engineers, all with different backgrounds. They operate in areas such as whole engine design, component design, engine development, aerodynamics, and noise to name but a very few. Engineering look at developing new engines as well as improving those already in service. If you are technically minded and enjoy CDT related or problem-solving subjects then you may wish to consider this area for a work placement.
Please note: availability of these placements does depend on the site.
If you are interested in seeing how something is made or how something works once it has gone through the design phase of development, then practical Engineering is an area that might interest you. Rolls-Royce has several businesses that are responsible for making different parts of the engine e.g. Turbine Systems, Fan Systems, Compressor Systems, Combustion etc. All these parts are then assembled to make a complete engine and tested to make sure that everything is working correctly before being sent to the customer.
If you are interested in physics, chemistry or science in general, then you may like to work in our laboratory areas. These areas are responsible for the testing and inspection of the components and engine parts. For example, we may apply dyes to the materials we use to check for holes, cracks and pores, etc. Similarly, this area inspects the surface, grain and structure of the materials under magnification to check for any irregularities. This area also ensures that the Company complies with national environmental standards which includes examining our water supplies.
Please note: availability of these placements does depend on the site.
Business and Administration consists of placements within Finance; Commercial; Marketing; Procurement; Human Resources; Secretarial / Administration work.
Our focus for work experience placements is within Engineering, however Rolls-Royce also recognises the need for supporting work experience placements within other important business areas. Please note: availability of these placements does depend on the site.
